My Natural Skincare Favorites

Natural Skincare Favorites // www.thefoodwright.com

Another favorites post – and this time, it’s all about skincare!

I’ve been a beauty product junkie for literally as long as I can remember, starting with the days I’d hoard all of my mom’s old Mary Kay eyeshadows and Claire’s blueberry-scented body glitter (oh yes.) Natural skincare is something that peaked my curiosity when I became pregnant with Sophie, and has stayed with me ever since. With the recommendation that you stay away from certain chemicals during pregnancy, my thought was, if this isn’t pregnancy-safe…is it really ever safe for your body? I’m happy to say that after trying a lot of different products over the years, and going through ups and downs with my own personal battle with acne, I have a small arsenal of products that I ADORE, that actually WORK, and won’t break the bank – not a single item is over $30! (Ballers on a budget, rejoice!)

Cystic acne runs in my family, and although both my sister and brother dealt with that through their teenage years, I somehow (very luckily) avoided it. Though I am far from having perfect skin, dealing with hormonal breakouts here and there and redness/texture issues, the routine I’ve been working from for the past 6+ months has definitely helped my skin be the best it’s ever been! That being said, while it does matter a lot what you put on your body, what you put inside your body matters, too! Being well hydrated and eating a balanced diet plays such a critical role in the health of your skin. But you won’t be hearing from me that you need to cut out all dairy, gluten, sugar, or whatever to get pretty skin – I think that’s a load of crap 😉 And even if it was true, bread would win over perfect skin every time.

For reference, I would say that my skin type is mildly acne prone, sensitive, and on the normal/dry side of things. Most of the products I recommend would be really great no matter what skin type you have, but I will specify if there is a product I use that wouldn’t be great for, say, someone with oily skin.

All Acure, Cocokind, Andalou, and Weleda products can also be found at Whole Foods nationwide, in addition to the Amazon links I’ve provided 🙂

Acure Brilliantly Brightening Facial Scrub – this is my favorite face scrub EVER – I can’t tell you how many times I’ve repurchased it! It’s gentle but still exfoliates without being harsh and ultra-abrasive like those St. Ives apricot scrubs we all used in high school. I use it every other day in the shower, so about 3-4 times a week.

Cocokind Facial Cleansing Oil – Oh Cocokind, I ADORE you! I couldn’t live without this cleansing oil. Like, seriously. At night I’ll take off as much makeup as I can with Pacifica’s rose water wipes (I just get them at Target) and then double cleanse with CK’s cleansing oil, squeezing a few pumps into my hand, massaging it into my skin, and then wiping away with a warm wash cloth. So fresh and so clean, clean!

Cocokind Organic Rosewater Facial Toner – I always liberally spray my face with this toner after washing it in the morning – it feels and smells SO good, and is so hydrating.

Cocokind Raspberry Vinegar Toner – acne prone friends, meet your new best friend! I spray this onto a cotton pad and wipe it on my face every night, paying special attention to any problem areas. I seriously swear by this stuff – it is absolutely amazing for breakouts. I also love the extra step of applying toner at night to make *extra* sure that all my makeup is off! Just be sure to avoid getting this toner in or around your eyes.

Cocokind Organic Facial Repair Serum – depending on my mood/current skin needs, I’ll either use this as my face/neck moisturizer at night, or this 1000 Roses Heavenly Night Cream by Andalou Naturals. Sometimes I’m feeling a facial oil and sometimes I’m feeling a cream, it just depends on the day!

Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Moisturizer – This is the moisturizer I’m currently using for the morning/daytime, and I love it! A word of caution – a little bit goes a very long way, and I don’t think it would be a great product if you have oily skin.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream – applying this eye cream every day feels so LUXURIOUS. It is so smooth and smells like a vanilla dream, and I feel like it really works!

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment – this is the ONLY lip balm I use and I absolutely love it! It does melt super easily though, so keep it out of your car 😉

Weleda Skin Food – I know this post has been all about face skincare, but I couldn’t go without mentioning my favorite hand cream. I have really dry hands and it’s starting to get to that time of year where I feel like they are constantly cracking. I apply this really liberally to my hands every night before I go to bed!

I hope you guys found this post to be helpful, and maybe discovered a few new products to try, too! Be sure to let me know in the comments what your skin has been loving lately, I am always up for trying new things!

You have SUCH gorgeous skin! I’ve finally completely switched over all of my products and make-up to natural brands (it was a journey, haha), but I’m always looking for cheaper/different kinds to try. Bookmarking this for when I’m back in the US next!! <3
