March Favorites

Okay guys, this is going to be a HUGE post because March was crazy! So much good food, so much good life…let’s hop to it!

We started out the month with a little road trip. We were planning to go down to Baltimore to see family, but the weather forecast was abysmal – heavy rain with 60 mph winds, so we decided it would be safest to not go. However, we did squeeze in a mini trip to Newport, RI, just about an hour and a half south of us. We stopped at The Hungry Monkey for some french toast and drove around the coast. Although it was bitterly cold and very windy, it was still so, so beautiful. We drove past the famous Rhode Island mansions and are excited to get back there this summer so we can walk around inside!

My adventures in sourdough have BEGUN! I think I’ve made five loaves so far? I’m using this book as my guide and have loved it. I bought a scale (finally! What kind of baker do I think I am?!!?!) and that’s been a real game changer. Weighing the ingredients just ensures so much more accurate results! Although I’m not totally satisfied with my crumb (I want sourdough with those big, beautiful, gaping holes) I think we’re off to a really good start! And it all tastes delicious, so nothing goes to waste πŸ˜‰ My friend, Liz, is also into sourdough, and she recently posted a recipe for these whole wheat sourdough pancakes which I cannot WAIT to try!

Made Joy the Baker’s brown butter chocolate chip cookies. Have no regrets.

Also purchased Alison Roman’s Dining In cookbook and have since made the cocoa banana bread & luckiest biscuits in America – both LIFE CHANGING. Those biscuits are so fluffy. Oh, and I also got How Sweet Eats‘ new cookbook, The Pretty Dish! I haven’t made anything out of it yet but am so excited to! Jessica’s blog was probably the first I ever started following many years ago and I have loved everything she’s created ever since.

Had a couple brunch dates with my favorite friend, Angela, at Buttery & Tatte – of course! I’d never tried Buttery before and am definitely going back – the cutest restaurant in South End! Their brioche french toast is out of this world.

^^ Tatte’s muesli, which is SO GOOD. I also got a chance to try their new sweet potato & avocado tartine, which was mega delicious! ^^

Brig and I had a lunch date sans-baby (just the two of us, a miracle!) at Area Four in Cambridge, where had the taaastiest wood-fired sourdough pizza and the best sticky bun of my life. Seriously.

Ate some killer breakfast sandwiches over at Mike and Patty’s (which is right next to Tufts Dental School!), including one made with brioche, caramelized bananas, nutella, and marshmallow fluff. Holy crap. 10/10. Liiiiittle bit messy though πŸ˜‰

Snagged lunch during the week with Brig at Dig Inn because it’s close to the school….and also because it’s my favorite. I got a salad with mixed greens & tofu, and while it was good, the best Dig Inn combo I’ve ever created was this: the maple roasted cauliflower + chickpeas, roasted brussels sprouts, butternut squash + farro, charred chicken thighs, and half an avocado. Absolute heaven.

Went to Target and while I was in the checkout, I saw a Reese’s Crunchy Cookie Big Cup, and it just spoke to me. I’m not one to buy candy, but I mean, we also all know I have a mega sweet tooth. I threw it on the conveyor belt and shared it with Brig and safe to say, both our lives have been changed for the better. A crunchy peanut butter cup? Literally nothing better. Next time you’re at Target – buy the Reese’s Crunchy Cookie Big Cup.

And THEN! Last Thursday, I heard the door to our apartment open and I thought it was Brig coming home from school. It was, but closely following behind him was MY MOM (who lives in Chicago!) and I was so shocked out of my mind I just sat and sobbed on the floor – ha! My mom and I are best friends and if I had my way, I’d see her every weekend, but I didn’t think I was going to see her until our girls trip at the end of May! Her and Brig had been planning for her to come out Easter weekend for a couple months and I had noooo idea. We had the greatest time together exploring the city and doing some much needed organizing/cleaning around the apartment (moms are so good at that ;)) – we got to know the people that work at The Container Store very well, haha! I feel like our apartment is finally coming together the way I want it to, and I’m starting to really like how it looks! Not quite the disheveled, we-just-moved-in feel anymore.

We ate a really life-changing sandwich at Flour in the Seaport, the “roasted sweet potato” with blue cheese, walnut pesto, apples, mustard greens, and roasted sweet potato on their multigrain bread. Honestly, it was bonkers delicious. I didn’t snag a picture of that one, but I did snag a picture of the other sandwich we shared, their smoked turkey. While it was really good, it wasn’t as mind-blowing as the roasted sweet potato πŸ˜‰ We also shared my favorite Flour cookies – the gluten-free salted caramel oreo & the rye double chocolate walnut. Ughhh writing about our lunch at Flour is killing me, it was all so good!

I found my new favorite smoothie joint in the city, Cocobeet!! I’ve tried several others and haven’t been very impressed, but THIS ONE!!! Cocobeet is the one. Entirely plant-based and mostly gluten-free, Cocobeet sells juices, salads, raw treats, smoothie bowls, and toasts. I got their pitaya bowl with their killer cocoa buckwheat granola and loooooved it. So excited to go back!

Our Easter was splendid! We took some quick photos on Sunday afternoon and I love how they turned out. I love my little family, and I love that my mom was here with us for the holiday! We had dinner with some friends up North on Sunday night and it was a lot of fun. I made Laura’s lemon coconut cake for dessert and it was delicious!

{Since I know people will ask, both Sophie’s and my dresses are from Old Navy, and my lipstick is Plum Pop by Clinique! The color appears differently in person than in the photo because of color filter I use in my photos, but it’s a gorgeous shade that wears wonderfully!}

Just last night, we had dinner with my mom at Boston Burger Co. – a place I’ve been wanting to try ever since before we even moved here! I got the bruschetta burger + bruschetta fries, which were way good. The icing on the cake, though, was one of their famous #FreakyFrappes – the S’more Than You Can Handle. Definitely something you need to share with the table πŸ˜‰

Other life things:

  • Sophie is officially walking! Buuut she prefers to crawl. So, you know. She does what she wants!
  • Finished Pretty Little Liars, now rewatching Parenthood. Ugh, I forgot how good this show is!
  • Loving 100% Pure’s Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream – heaven knows my under eyes need all the help they can get, ha! Comes with the territory of having a baby πŸ˜‰ It’s natural, nontoxic, and makes your face smell like a vanilla latte sooooo win!
  • My skin has kinda been going crazy the past week, so I’ve using my Cocokind turmeric stick + this clay face mask a ton to calm things down. I do mix the face mask with a little facial oil because it can be a little too drying for my skin – but I still love it!

We are headed to Utah later this week for a crazy, family/friend-seeing-frenzy during Brig’s spring break! It will be wild but good.

How was your March?! What are you most looking forward to in April?
