August FLEW BY and now we’re in September – what?! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t glad summer is coming to a close…though I miss all the time we had with Brig! It’s just been so stinking hot and humid and the couple days we’ve had that have dipped down to 70 have been nothing short of a godsend. Cooler weather, sweaters, boots, pumpkin, I AM READY FOR YOU.
IN AUGUST WE…
Took two trips to Maine because it is just IRRESISTIBLY BEAUTIFUL. My favorite spots that we’ve explored so far are York/Ogunquit and Portland. Ate at the life-changing Duckfat (we will be back for you, delicious french fries. WE WILL BE BACK.) Sophie got over her fear of the beach & grew to LOVE the sand and water. This has been a struggle all summer, with every trip to the beach filled with lots of tears. When she electively took her first steps on her own onto the sand and into the water we were soooo proud! When I was 8 I almost drowned in the ocean because I was swept into a rip current and while it was really scary, I was surprisingly unphased afterward – I didn’t develop a fear of the water or anything. But bringing Sophie into the ocean brought a ton of unexpected anxiety and worry for me from that experience. I was a little nervous taking her into the water and held onto her hand super tight!
Found out that our second baby is a GIRL. We get to meet her in just three more months!! December could not come soon enough, but I am for sure soaking up all this time with my sweet Sophie girl as my only baby!! Pregnancy wise I feel so amazing and so lucky.
Spent a lot of time with my dad as he and his wife wrapped up their time in New England and are now headed down South to their next destination. His wife is a traveling surgical nurse, so they move quite a bit!
Consumed very delicious smoothie bowls at a new-to-me spot in Boston called Jugos Supremo. They have a sister store called Jugos attached to the Back Bay station, too!
Went to a school event for Brig on Cape Cod while my dad watched Sophie for the whole day.
Discovered the most incredible Indian restaurant in Stoneham called Rang Indian Bistro and it is now my life’s purpose to spread the word that EVERYONE AROUND ME MUST GO. Ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, saag paneer, baingan bharta, garlic naan, mango lassis, and veggie pakoras for two people, and that is V NORMAL. When you go for Indian, you go all out. No exceptions.
Sophie learned how to say yogurt and chicken and blueberry and daughter and NO (so, so, so many “no’s!” these days, haha) and much more! I think she learns a new word every day. She literally never stops talking and it is the absolute best. Sophie thinks that any baked good that comes out of the oven is a cookie, so we’ve been eating a lot of cookies, wink wink –> chocolate zucchini muffins. And blender pumpkin oat muffins – I’ll post the recipe on the blog soon, they are the eeeasiest! But we’ve also had real cookies, too – I have a bunch of these paleo chocolate chip cookie dough balls in the freezer that are ready to bake at a moment’s notice – my FAVE.
Went out to dinner at a place in Davis Square called The Painted Burro and holy moly, best Mexican food of my life! I would describe it as slightly more upscale Mexican, but still somewhere you can take your 20-month-old to and speaking of which – the “kids” meal was the BEST. Fresh tortillas, a little melted cheese, grilled chicken in tiny pieces, a little corn on the cob, a slice of watermelon – it was perfect. Brig ordered the carnitas tacos and I got a shrimp taco and a fish taco – all excellent. Mango guacamole to start and passionfruit sorbet and dulce de leche tres leches cake to finish. Making plans to move across the street from this place, stay tuned 😛
Sophie got croup a couple weeks ago and it was theeee worst!! It came on so suddenly and out of nowhere and it was scary and terrible, but she thankfully got over it really quickly. Uff da. No bueno. We watched a lot of Coco and snuggled.
Very random BUT – I have a natural skincare routine that I absolutely love – do you guys want me to do a post about it?! I by no means have perfect skin but truly I have never stuck with any routine for as long as I have now (6+ months) and am totally breakout free. And don’t blame it on the whole pregnancy glow nonsense because I’m not one of those women that’s blessed with perfect skin because of pregnancy 😉
Discovered a new protein supplement that I am OBSESSED with – Primal Kitchen’s Vanilla + Chocolate Coconut Collagen Fuels! Legit tastes SO GOOD. I love the chocolate one in smoothies OR blended into some hot almond milk for hot chocolate. Lightly sweet but not overly so, and none of the weird protein texture or aftertaste. I’ve been making this pumpkin pie protein smoothie with the vanilla collagen fuel and I’ll for sure have to share that recipe with you guys – so good! I initially grabbed the sample packs from my health foods store (Cambridge Naturals, for local people!) and just ordered the big tub off of Amazon.
How was your August? What are you most looking forward to in September?
