Helllllooo! Happy Friday! These past couple weeks have been a total WHIRLWIND – Soph & I left Texas, went to Chicago for a week while Brig drove the truck out, and now we’re in our new apartment in Boston! Life feels wild and completely surreal and I can’t BELIEVE we are now living in such an incredible, beautiful, bustling city! We spent the day today exploring and I was just filled to the brim with excitement and joy and eagerness to explore every nook and cranny of this amazing place.
But hey! Let’s talk about some Chicago highlights!
My mom and step-dad live north of the city in the cutest little town that is quiet and beautiful and perfect. HowEVerrr last Wednesday, there was a thunderstorm that literally lasted TWELVE HOURS (12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and was the hardest, most terrifying storm I’ve ever witnessed. (Maybe I’m being dramatic, but you know. It was intense.) The sump pump alarm kept going off and I was worried we were gonna become the next residents of Atlantis. There was a literal river running through the backyard!! Insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway. Sorry about all the exclamation points.
The food highlight of my trip was DEFINITELY Real Good Juice Co. – oh my word. I went to their location in Southport two days a row and honestly kinda wish I could go every day for the rest of my life. Their avocado toast is legitimately the best I’ve EVER had. Aaand they put all that avo-mash goodness on top of the fluffiest, crusty-but-not-too-crusty, local sourdough that is just out of this world and with every taste I was like GET OUTTT!! HOW DO YOU DO THIS. Also topped with the cutest carrot roses and a 6-minute egg. I died.
I also got the fruity pebbowl smoothie bowl which somehow very legitimately tasted like fruity pebbles ?!?!?!?!? It was pretty sweet but still very enjoyable and it was topped with their paleo granola (literally insane, so crunchy and perfect) and coconut and blueberries and bananas and chia seeds. Perfection.
I met up with Addie from Chickpea in the City at RGJ one of those days and it was so fun – she is just as spectacular, fun, and inspiring in person as she is on her blog and Instagram.
Back to the adorable little town in which my mom lives — so dreamy, right?! This place is just a ten minute walk away from her house!
One of our funnest (?) days in the city was last Saturday – we went on a segway tour through Chicago and it was AWESOME. I was a bit skeptical at first, but my mom talked me into doing it and I’m so glad she did. Segways are a lot easier to ride than I thought they would be, but when I first got on my anxiety was through the ROOF. The guy that was helping me learn how to ride it was like, Luci! You need to relax!! And I was like, I DON’T KNOW HOW! People have been telling me that for 22 years ?
After the segway ride, we had lunch at Portillo’s and dessert at Do-Rite Donuts, where I had a supremely underwhelming vegan chocolate donut – the regular chocolate was much better ?
^^ Sophie LOVED Lake Michigan ? ^^
I had so much fun hanging out with my mom and actually get to see her, and my siblings and extended family, in a week for a get-together in good old Utah. After our trip next week Sophia and I will have flown 8 times together – 6 times without Brig. That’s a lot for a 6 month old! I’m working on getting a travel post up after this next trip because SJ & I have become proooos at the whole flying-on-an-airplane thing, especially as a quasi-single mom!
But for now, we’re in Boston! Between unpacking and running around the city we like to squeeze in some snuggles, cause Brig starts school next week.
Life is wonderful.
