January Favorites

January has felt like theeeeee longest month! I somewhat feel like the pout pout fish (with a pout pout face, spreading dreary wearies all over the place) in my general extreme dislike of cold, wet, blustery January, buuuut I have a hard time hating February because Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday! Are you a Valentine’s Day lover or hater? I think it’s so funny that it’s such a controversial holiday…no matter if you have someone to love or not, I still think it’s fun 😉

(Pictured above) Tatte’s chicken & sweet potato salad! I want to eat it every day of my life. If you are ever headed to Tatte for lunch, get this!!!

Eating Evolved just came out (like yesterday) with their special limited-edition STRAWBERRY ROASTED COCONUT BUTTER, only available online. I’m so freaking excited to try it! Doesn’t it just sound like heaven??

I cannot stop with my fave blueberry cauliflower smoothie. I usually add a handful of frozen spinach to it, too. I crave it daily!! It tastes SO good. I promise cauliflower doesn’t taste weird in smoothies! Steam it first, then freeze it, and you can’t even tell it’s there 🙂

The sweet ladies at Solstice Canyon sent me their organic almond butters this past week and they are unbelievably smooth and wildly delicious. They have three flavors right now – cardamom & clove (my fave!), aztec chocolate, and their original almond butter. Not to mention their packaging is so stinking cute! I think they would make for a super fun gift. Maybe a Valentine’s day gift for the healthy foodie in your life? 😉

THIS single-serving paleo chocolate chip cookie. I’ve made it twice this past week. Coming soon to the blog. It’s AMAZING!!! Make it.

Umm okay also last food thing!! Oat milk hot chocolate. 1 oz chopped chocolate (Alter Eco’s organic deep dark sea salt is my current FAVE!) + 1 cup Oatly oat milk, simmered on the stove. Freaking obsessed.

I listened to this podcast episode from Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations with Geneen Roth on Conscious Eating (& so much more, not just about food) and holy freaking cow, you guys!! Life changing. I ordered Geneen’s book Women, Food, and God and am so looking forward to reading it! My two favorite quotes from this episode:

I had confidence in myself…that my mind could start going to the brink of terror, and I could bring it back. So no matter what horrible thing happened ever for the rest of my life, I saw that if I was conscious about noticing what I did have, not noticing what I didn’t have, noticing what was good, that changed my mood every day. (-Geneen Roth)

We are walking, talking expressions of our deepest convictions. Everything we believe about love, about fear, about transformation and God is revealed in how, when, and what we eat. (-Oprah)

I thought this article from the NYT on which is more important, sleep vs. exercise, was suuuper interesting!

Oat milk hot chocolate obsession, continued: The Humble Ascent of Oat Milk.

I am absolutely loving this Coconut Hair Defrizzer & Heat Protector by Desert Essence – it protects your hair from blow drying & heat tools, and makes it sooo soft and shiny without being greasy! Bonus, it smells super good and is nontoxic. Also, it’s only $12 so get it get it get it!!! It will change your life.

After trying a couple different dry shampoos, this month I just had to come back to my OG, Batiste. I’ve tried more expensive ones and they don’t even compare! Which is awesome, because at the rate I go through dry shampoo, I don’t really want to be shelling out $30/bottle/month 😂

I hosted my first dinner club this past weekend with a group of women from our church and it was SO great. I’ve been wanting to start a dinner club for soooo long and am super excited to keep this going!! Good for the soul 🙌 I decided when we moved to Boston that I wanted to be more intentional and proactive in building and sustaining friendships. We’ve moved around what feels like a lot over the past few years, and I feel like for a long time my attitude was, “I just want people to come to ME.” After feeling disappointed and lonely one too many times, I decided to take things into my own hands, and I can’t tell you how life changing that is! It’s outside of my comfort zone, but so necessary for my sanity & happiness!! Instead of waiting for friends to come to you – BE the friend you want. Be the one that organizes things, the one that invites people over – just be the starter! I think that it’s also been important for me, as a perpetual people-pleaser, to understand & accept that not everyone will be my best friend/I won’t click with everyone and that’s okay. Ya feel me on this?

What were the highs and lows of your January? Anything you’re looking forward to next month? For me, it’s re-resolving to do some of those resolutions I haven’t quite started yet…;)
