Well, now that we’ve talked about how I manage to shop at Whole Foods on a budget, it’s time to discuss the WHY. Why is Whole Foods so awesome? Why am I so irrationally obsessed with this store?

(1) SIMPLE MILLS

Ohh, Simple Mills. My love for these people & this company runs DEEP! They are my faves. They make naturally gluten-free crackers, baking mixes, and the best gf pancake mix in all the land. They use real, simple, wholesome ingredients and their stuff is freaking delicious! My pantry is filled with boxes and boxes of their goodness.

(2) ONE DEGREE ORGANIC FOODS

They make granola, breads, flours, oats…but my favorite product of all: their sprouted tortillas. Plop one in the microwave for 30 seconds and promptly devour. Repeat as many times as necessary. They are thick and fluffy and moist and perfect. I’ve been tempted to use them as blankets. Do you think that’s a good idea? I think that’s a good idea.

(3) BOB’S RED MILL

I use BRM products on a daily basis! Everything from their almond flour to their organic all-purpose flour to their organic extra-thick rolled oats…I LOVE this brand & all that they produce. Staples in my pantry!

(4) CEREALS: KASHI ORGANIC HONEY TOASTED CEREAL & NATURE’S PATH KAMUT PUFFS

Truth be told, I really don’t eat much cereal these days. Hardly ever, actually. But Sophie does! Haha. And this box o’ honey toasted cereal goodness has been mine & Sophie’s fave lately. She also loves kamut puffs, which is awesome, because there’s only one ingredient: puffed kamut. Good source of fiber & carbs, nada sugar. Nice.

(5) PRIMAL KITCHEN SALAD DRESSINGS (& MAYO!) 

PK’s dressings are made with avocado oil, which is super awesome because avocados house some real good fats. They also have an avocado oil mayonnaise! Their products are dairy free & made with super clean ingredients. PK dressings & mayo are always in my fridge. Ze best.

(6) NUT BUTTERS – MARANATHA, EAT NUTTZO, & ARTISANA

I’m cheating and putting three products into one because they all fall under the NUT BUTTER category. Ahhh, the best aisle in the grocery store. I won’t tell you how much nut butter is in my pantry because it is A LOT!! I love my nuts.

I love the clean, raw taste of Artisana almond butter. It’s pricey, but it lasts me awhile, and the company is just so awesome. Their cashew butter is also UNBELIEVABLE. I love them. I also adore Eat Nuttzo’s organic paleo power fuel line, and Maranatha’s organic crunchy peanut butter! I like to choose nut butters with no extra junk or fillers – just nuts.

(7) ORGANIC VALLEY DAIRY

Okay, if you can’t tell by now, I’m kind of a serious brand loyalist. I find my people & stick to them! I love OV’s milk, eggs, butter, ghee, and cheese and buy them almost exclusively when possible. I adore this company. This is the milk I buy for Sophie, and honestly I don’t think it could get any better! It comes from organic, grass-fed cows on happy farms. Sourcing high-quality dairy is SO important to me – I think you gotta put your money where your morals are, and I like to support dairies that treat their cows (& farmers!) the very best.

(8) 365 ORGANIC CRACKED BLACK PEPPER TURKEY BREAST

This is my faaavorite deli turkey. No nitrites or nitrates added – just turkey. Imagine that?!

(9) REBBL DRINKS

If you’re craving chocolate milk, THIS IS FOR YOU! It’s coconut milk-based (so dairy-free), naturally sweetened with coconut sugar, and makes for suuuper great hot cocoa if you warm it up on the stove! They have a ton of other flavors, too, but these are my fave! I love the dark chocolate protein, but I’ve found that one to be a little harder to find!

(10) BARS – PERFECT, BULLETPROOF, GOMACRO, RX

I’m super picky when it comes to energy/protein bars, and these are all my favorites! For Rx bars, I love the mint chocolate, chocolate chip, and chocolate sea salt. For GoMacro, I love the peanut butter and cashew. For Bulletproof, I love the vanilla shortbread and lemon cookie. For Perfect bars, I love the peanut butter chocolate chip, peanut butter, and coconut peanut butter. Sophie is OBSESSED with Perfect bars – I ask her if she wants a peanut butter bar and she gets the BIGGEST grin on her face. I dice them into little squares for her to pick up & eat and she loves it!

(11) BREADS – NASHOBA BROOKS AND VERMONT BREAD CO. (LOCAL COMPANIES) 

Something I love about Whole Foods is how many locally-made items they carry. My favorite breads in this area are by Nashoba Brooks (all technically ‘sourdoughs,’ meaning they’re naturally leavened & fermented!) and Vermont Bread Co. I like to choose breads that are made with mostly, if not all, organic ingredients. If you are in the Massachusetts area, you HAVE to get your hands on some Nashoba Brooks bread – it’s so life-changing! Super good for toast & sandwiches…and really all bread applications 😉

(12) KETTLE AVOCADO OIL & HIMALAYAN SALT POTATO CHIPS

There comes a time….(*cough* of the month) when you just need some salty snacks. THESE ARE YOUR SALTY SNACKS. Plus you need chips to go with all those sandwiches you’re making with local sourdough, right?! They are so good and so crunchy!!!

(13) HAIL MERRY CUPS – MEYER LEMON & CHOCOLATE ALMOND BUTTER

There comes a time…..(*cough* of the month) when you just need some sweet snacks. THESE ARE YOUR SWEET SNACKS. The almond butter cups seriously taste like brownies, and the lemon cups taste like lemon tarts. They are unbelievably delicious and made with really amazing ingredients! Refined sugar free, gluten free, dairy free….the whole kaboodle.

(14) 365 ORGANIC SAUCES – TOMATO BASIL PASTA SAUCE + RED ENCHILADA SAUCE

I love the 365 organic store brand. SO MUCH. Super affordable, high-quality organic products. The tomato basil pasta sauce is my go-to red sauce (I never make my own from scratch anymore! haha) and I love the red enchilada sauce. Both have no added sugars and are made with great ingredients. Yasss.

(15) ALTER ECO ORGANIC CHOCOLATE BARS

I am so obsessed with Alter Eco chocolate right now – they’re my faves! They make fair-trade, organic chocolate that tastes SO GOOD. I love to chop up the deep dark sea salt for my oat milk hot chocolates that I’ve been obsessing over lately, too. Mmm.

(16) HEALTHADE KOMBUCHA

Healthade makes my favorite kombuchas. I love the pink lady apple + pomegranate flavors the most!

(17) 365 ORGANIC UNSWEETENED VANILLA ALMONDMILK 

1/2 gallon of organic almond milk for $2.99?! Um YEAH it’s my favorite!

(18) CEDAR’S ORGANIC HUMMUS

Cedar’s hummus is my FAVE store-bought hummus. The roasted red pepper is my go-to. Sophie is super obsessed, too, and eats it by the spoonful! 🙂

(19) PURELY ELIZABETH GRANOLA 

Purely Elizabeth has ruined me forever because I hardly ever make granola anymore! I mean why bother when you can find a granola this freaking good at the store?! Amazing ingredients, seriously delicious, and there’s so many different flavors! I have a LOT of this granola in my pantry.

(20) BANZA CHICKPEA PASTA 

I love Banza pasta so so much. Naturally gluten-free, has a really great texture, and honestly I don’t really mind the subtle beany flavor at all! It’s super high in protein and fiber.

(21) VITAL PROTEINS COLLAGEN PEPTIDES

I think I’ve been using collagen peptides for a year now! Y’all know I’m obsessed with this stuff. Flavorless protein powder that’s also good for your gut, joints, hair, skin, and nails? Sign. Me. UP. (Pro tip: this stuff is way cheaper to order on Amazon.)

(22) KITE HILL ALMOND-BASED CHIVE CREAM CHEESE

I LOVE THIS STUFF. It legitimately tastes like real chive cream cheese! But it’s made with almonds, so it’s dairy free! Smear it all over everything you love. It’s divine.

(23) SIETE FOODS GRAIN-FREE TORTILLA CHIPS (& TORTILLAS) 

Siete makes grain-free tortilla chips that are wildly addicting, as well as tortillas that are equally as awesome. They’re really fantastic gluten-free options made with real ingredients like cassava flour, avocado oil, and coconut.

(24) NAVITAS ORGANICS CACAO NIBS & HEMP SEEDS

I call this dynamic duo my hippie sprinkles. Plus coconut shreds. Because I literally put a sprinkle of them on everything! Fiber, fats, crunch. They’ve got it all.

(25) SIGGI’S 4% SKYR YOGURT

This is my FAVORITE yogurt. I genuinely do not eat any other. It’s hardly sweetened, sooo creamy, high in protein, and made with milk from grass-fed cows! The 4% is my favorite – the 0-2% is a little too tart for me, and the triple cream is delicious but more of a special treat. I love buying the big container of 4% honey siggi’s. We also love the no sugar added variety, banana and cinnamon! Sophie is SMITTEN with this yogurt. She goes bonkers as soon as she sees the container.

OOPS, ONE MORE! (26) SIMPLY ORGANIC SPICES

These are my favorite spices, not only because they’re pretty and minimalist (I’m so sucked in by packaging) but buying organic spices is incredibly important! They are heavily sprayed with pesticides and often contain preservatives and fillers to prevent sticking and aging.

    I want to go to Whole Foods right now and buy one (or maybe two…) of everything on your list! Thanks for sharing so many favorites. Also I had no idea about the spices. I’ll definitely be replacing my empty spice with organic versions.

    Love your blog! We love the bread from When Pigs Fly…especially whole wheat and oat honey. Love the 365 brand salsas and the bakery mini banana and choc chip muffins. Their juice smoothies are awesome too!
