A post on toast!
A post on toast with the MOST!!
Aka, 4 super fun ideas-on-bread to SPICE UP your toast game.
The one really very necessary thing you need to make this happen: really very excellent bread. (Also, a toaster. But we already knew that.) Don’t settle for crappy bread, okay? Friends don’t let friends eat bad food. I’m having a moment with Whole Foods’ organic San Francisco sourdough because it is WONDERFUL. Perfect, slightly-crisp outsides and soft, chewy insides. It’s made of happiness and dreams and – bonus!! – sourdough has really great health benefits for your gut and digestion so we are wiiiiinning at breakfast today, friends!
I have two savory options and two sweeter options for your choosing and they are all VERY SCRUMPTIOUS. Choose according to your craving. Sometimes I wake up wanting something suh-weeeeet and other days I’m all about the savory. Ya feel me?
TOAST #1, SAVORY: “CHEESY” CHIVE AVOCADO TOAST WITH TOMATOES AND SOFT-BOILED EGGS
A take on classic avocado toast, made a little extra with non-dairy almond chive cream cheese (I use the one by Kite Hill Foods! Absolutely obsessed. You can get it at Whole Foods), sliced grape tomatoes, and the dreamiest soft-boiled eggs. I just mash half of an avocado with a hefty dollop of almond cream cheese, spread it on my toast, add tomatoes, and then quickly soft-boil and egg or two. Here’s a great tutorial if you’ve never done it before!
TOAST #2, SWEET: ALMOND BUTTER TOAST WITH APRICOT, CINNAMON, & HONEY
We all know I have a sweet tooth, but natural preferences aside – I think this one is my current favorite!! I just spread my toast with a thick schmear of my favorite raw almond butter by Artisana Organics, sliced apricot, a drizzle of Texas honey, and a few dashes of cinnamon. Game. Changer.
TOAST #3, SWEET: PB & (CHIA) JAM TOAST
PB&J – the most classic of combinations!! Ordinary jam has verrry little to no nutrients so I like to make my own chia jam to decrease added sugar and increase proteins, fibers, and healthy fats!! I always just kinda throw mine together without measuring anything but my friend Rachel has some really great chia jam recipes here. PB&J is pretty self-explanatory, but I just spread some peanut butter on my toast (organic & made from Valencia peanuts, when possible!), pile jam on top of that, maybe some extra toppings like coconut flakes or chia seeds, and devour!
TOAST #4, SAVORY: PESTO AVOCADO TOAST WITH A FRIED EGG
For this toast, I mashed half of an avocado with a big scoop of Hope Foods’ kale pesto hummus – but if you have regular pesto laying around, that works perfectly, too! I then topped it with an egg fried in olive oil – crispy white & runny yolk perrrfection! If I’m really feeling on top of my game and have fresh herbs laying around, some chopped fresh basil is a LOVELY addition.
Happy toasting, friends!!
